Clouds of Hope was founded in the year 2002 as a non-profit organisation and is now registered as a section-21-company in Kwa Zulu Natal, South Africa. This project focuses primarily on support to HIV/AIDS affected and infected people as well as on AIDS prevention. Beneficiaries of this project include all community members in the KwaSani Local Authority Area, who have been affected in some way by poverty or the AIDS pandemic.
We care for over 70 children orphaned by AIDS at our property in Underberg. We provide permanent accomodation, food, therapy, and take the children to school. See Residential Care for more information.
Our outreach work includes providing food and care for those in need. We also run regular vocational classes at the Clouds of Hope property to empower women within the community. See Outreach for more information.
Aim
Clouds of Hope plays a very active role in the Underberg community, and our vehicle can regularly been seen throughout the Kwa-Sani municipality in South Africa, and traveling to hospital and the clinic.
It is our aim to reduce the impact of the current HIV/AIDS pandemic by providing support for children affected by the virus, and through outreach work within the community.
Residential
Clouds of Hope currently houses 72 children aging from new born babies to 18 year olds, living in a safe, caring, homely environment on the outskirts of Underberg.
All our children have in some way been affected by the HIV/AIDS pandemic, and were in need of desperate assistance when taken in by the project.
The kids attend local preschools, primary, and high schools, and we also provide transport for additional children otherwise unable to attend.
If the children choose not to attend University after finishing their schooling then Clouds will offer them a space in our "half-way house" in Underberg, designed to provide safe accommodation and independence whilst at the same time giving advise and support for adult life and employment.
Outreach
In 2006 the Clouds of Hope Outreach program provided daily breakfast and lunch boxes for 146 children in need within the local area. Clouds of Hope also provided bi-monthly food aid to support over 450 people living within the local and regional area untill the Department of Welfare inexplicably refused to renew funding.
In the interim period Clouds of Hope have been providing food assistance using donations from local supermarkets and generous individuals.
As well as food, we also provide clothing and other essential living items such as; toiletries, blankets etc. These are usually donated by the local community or other outside bodies.
Donate
If you are interested in donating and supporting Clouds of Hope please see our donation page.
